VAM Unit

What is the VAM Unit?

The VAM (Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhiza) Unit at ICAR Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Krishnagiri, focuses on the mass production of beneficial mycorrhizal fungi that improve nutrient uptake in plants. This eco-friendly bio-input supports root health and reduces dependency on chemical fertilizers.

About Our VAM Unit

The unit offers training to farmers on the production and application of VAM spores using low-cost substrates like vermiculite, sand, and soil. Farmers are also introduced to the role of VAM in organic farming and sustainable soil health.

Enhances Root Growth

VAM forms a symbiotic relationship with roots, increasing root surface area for better nutrient absorption.

Improves Water Efficiency

Helps plants access water in deeper soil layers, increasing drought resistance.

Reduces Chemical Inputs

Minimizes the need for chemical fertilizers by making soil nutrients more available.
